How does Matterport capture a space?

The operator moves through the site, recording overlapping views with a supported device and the Matterport capture workflow. After upload, Matterport processes the imagery and spatial information into a navigable model hosted in Matterport Cloud. A smartphone, supported 360 camera or dedicated Pro camera can start the process, but the device affects geometry, visual quality, coverage and available deliverables. Pro3 uses LiDAR and is suited to larger areas and indoor or outdoor capture.

The capture plan matters as much as the camera: room access, scan spacing, lighting, mirrors, moving objects and exterior conditions influence the result. A digital twin records a place at a point in time; changes to the building need a new capture or update.

What can people do in a Matterport twin?

Image quality, photos and visual presentation

Matterport combines the captured views into an immersive walkthrough and can support photo assets from the model. The output is not one fixed quality level: camera choice, resolution, lighting, distance and processing affect sharpness, color and coverage. Pro3 is designed for high-resolution imagery alongside LiDAR depth capture; a phone or 360 camera serves a different cost and capture profile.

For a visual marketing project, review a sample tour and downloadable imagery from the exact device and lighting conditions planned. For technical work, separately review spatial data quality. A photorealistic image is not proof that the geometry meets a survey tolerance.

Measurements and floor plans

Matterport's spatial model supports measurements and can be used to order schematic floor plans. This is useful for understanding room dimensions, layouts and relationships remotely. Accuracy depends on the capture device, scan quality, model processing and the specific measurement. Verify critical dimensions on site or against an appropriate survey before design, fabrication or contractual use.

Schematic Floor Plans are an additional deliverable generated from the model; they are distinct from the interactive viewer and from editable CAD files. Confirm availability, price, plan and regional conditions in the Matterport account for each project.

MatterPak, CAD, BIM and AutoCAD workflows

These are separate output products and add-ons. Capturing a tour does not automatically deliver a finished CAD drawing or BIM model. Match the requested file to the design task and check the eligible capture, plan, ordering and delivery requirements.

“AutoCAD export” should specify the output: MatterPak data can be imported into design tools, while a Matterport CAD File provides editable DWG drawings. A BIM deliverable involves modeling, not simply renaming the tour file. Validate geometry and scope before relying on any generated drawing.

Hosting, SDK and APIs

Matterport hosts the digital twin and its viewer in its own cloud platform. Its SDK and APIs allow developers to build additional viewer interactions and connect spatial information to other systems, subject to access and plan requirements. Matterport itself has substantial presentation and developer capabilities; an overlay is an optional addition for a particular business journey.

Before choosing a workflow, ask who controls the Matterport account, whether the model must remain online, which exports are required, what access the integration needs and how the model will be maintained.

What can Xperio3D add after capture?

Matterport provides the spatial foundation. If a project also needs customer actions or a different presentation, Xperio3D can add an experience layer around the existing twin. For shopping, products can be presented in the tour and selected for cart or checkout. The checkout path depends on configuration. For bookings, a calendar embed, an availability lookup, a reservation request and a confirmed reservation are different steps; Xperio3D does not imply that every tour completes a reservation.
